About Us

Our Problem Statement...
Marker pens dry out if their caps are not securely shut.

We are a team of high school students part of the Academy of Science, Engineering, and High Technology at Bartlett High School
For our Engineering Design and Development class, we are working on the problem of dried out marker pens
We need you to fill our a survey so that we can assess the data related to our problem statement
The survey is a short one on your experiences with marker pens.

Survey Instructions

Thank you for agreeing to take our short survey; this should only take you about 10 to 20 minutes.
We have three versions of this survey: a Children's survey, an adult/teacher/parent survey, and an quick online survey.
If you are a teacher...
- we have a survey for children below called Children Survey that you can open (as a Word document) and print out for your class. This survey should only take around 5 minutes. If the children are younger, you may have to help them take the survey, but the survey is very child-friendly, simple, and short.
- We would also appreciate it if you could take our adult survey about your experiences with marker pens. This survey is longer (but should take at most 20 minutes) and more detailed than the children survey, but still quite simple.
- If you do not have the time to do a longer survey, we have a shorter online survey on a website that takes no longer than 5 minutes to fill out. The link is at the bottom of the screen and please read the instructions.
- Please turn the finished surveys (your class and your own) into the main office of your school, and we will pick it up after the school-day someday on the week of January 3rd, 2011 (depending on when you are finished). If you could e-mail us at exemplaengineering@yahoo.com to tell us when you are finished, that would be helpful.
If you not a teacher...
- If you are an adult but not a teacher, you just need to take the adult survey. It should take at most 20 minutes. In order to access this survey, you can just click on the link below that says Adult Survey. A Word document should open up and you can fill it out and then send it to us via e-mail at exemplaengineering@yahoo.com. If you have any problems, questions, concerns, or comments, you can also contact us using this e-mail.
- If you are an adult and you have children, we would really appreciate it if you could help your child take the childrens' version of the survey as well. It is not required, but it would really help us. The survey is only 7 simple questions long and can be filled out the same way you would fill out the adult survey (highlighter).
- If you do not have the time to do a longer survey, we have a shorter online survey on a website that takes no longer than 5 minutes to fill out. The link is at the bottom of the screen and please read the instructions.

In order to fill out the survey, you can...

Use the highlighter tool on Microsoft Word to choose your answer, highlight the option.
- For example, to click "yes" to a question, you would choose a color from the highlighter tool (what color you use does not matter, as long as it is clearly visible) and highlight the word "yes"
- The result should look like this:
  - Do you use markers? Yes No
  - This could work for the example below as well. Instead of marking an X, you can just highlight the space, like this:
    - Do you use markers? _ Yes No
You can use an X or some other universal symbol (i.e, a check mark) on the line next to the option.
- The result should look like this:
  - Do you use markers? _X_ Yes No
- For open-ended questions, you may type the answer on the lines given.
